The way you feel directly affects the impression you make at work and in social situations. If your self-image is positive, you will naturally present yourself as confident and ready for whatever the day brings. With a negative one, however, you risk negatively impacting other aspects of your life. If you’re ready to work on building up your self-image, turn your attention to making some visible changes.
Take Care of Your Skin
Every day, your skin gets exposed to sun, weather, and environmental conditions. It’s also affected by forces within you, such as your diet and hormones. Eating right and developing a good skin care routine can improve the health and appearance of your skin. Twice-daily face washing removes excess oils and helps remove dead skin cells. Use a facial cleanser that is specially formulated for your type of skin. Moisturizer keeps your skin soft and supple. Most importantly, wear sunscreen wherever you go outdoors to protect from harmful UVA and UVB rays. Sun damage accumulates over the years and can cause dryness, wrinkles, and discoloration.
Fix Your Teeth
Smiling not only makes you feel good, it signals to others that you are friendly and approachable. For an attractive smile, you need to keep your teeth healthy and looking great. Brushing and flossing is a start, but remember to schedule regular cleanings with a dental hygienist. You may also want to discuss other treatments with your dentist, such as teeth whitening or straightening. Braces are more effective when you’re young, but adults can also benefit. Many choices in braces are available these days, and your dental insurance may provide some coverage.
Practice Good Posture
Good posture can benefit you physically, emotionally, and socially. As you correct bad habits and strengthen the muscles that help you stand tall, you may see a reduction in aches and pains. You’ll be able to breathe more deeply, and your food will digest better. Moreover, your good posture will lead to a more positive self-image. Yoga is a great way to improve posture and maintain it. Stretches, especially those using resistance bands, as well as weight training, are also helpful. Focus on the muscles in your back, thighs, and core.
Developing good habits of self-care will boost your self-image because you will feel better and look better. You’ll also feel a sense of purpose and accomplishment that can only come with setting and reaching goals. The key is integrating a healthy body with a healthy mind.
